As a director of photography, my work is characterized by an emotional, organic, and naturalistic visual style. My main work moves within, and between, fiction and documentary. I have always been fascinated by the strength of moving images; how they work on different levels. On the surface they tell a concrete visual story, but at the same time the subtext affects us - making us think, relate, and most importantly: Feel.
I approach each project based on the characters’ psychology, working through their feelings to shape the visual language. For me, every image must earn its place. By consciously considering the meaning of images - rooted in narrative drive, relationship, and emotions - a stronger foundation about something deeper - the subtext - is created.
I love this depth of film and moving images, from layers of emotions, to the ability to shift perspectives, and how we, through this art form, can make other people feel seen, understood, and less alone.
In addition to fiction and documentary, dance and movement are central in my work
(Shaping change, Barfota, Minns Mig). I explore bodily movement as a tool for understanding and expressing feelings in visual art; In which ways can movement be used as an alternative narrative approach?
The body is often at the core of my work - through themes of body ideal, body pressure, social/biological gender, and how we can learn to befriend our bodies. A central ambition for me is to create works that open dialogue around the body, lifting it out of being taboo. Just as we all move through different phases of life, the body too transforms - naturally, inevitably, and just as beautiful.
